Akquaaa's Gilda
2,80 €Guindilla pepper, olive and anchovy. The pintxo that opens any Basque bar, and the one that opens this menu too. It costs less than three euros and it is the best way to find out what kind of place this is.
Tapas and small plates
Restaurante Akquaaa serves tapas and pintxos with Basque roots on the Calafell seafront: gilda, Cantabrian anchovies, Russian salad with smoked eel, croquettes, Andalusian-style squid and produce from the sea. Nearly all of it in half portions, from 2,80 €, on the terrace or at the beach bar.
Almost the whole tapas section of the menu carries two prices: half portion and full portion. It is not an administrative detail, it is the way of eating we care about: a table of four should be able to try eight or ten different things instead of three.
It works particularly well while the rice is cooking, which takes about 25 minutes.

The Russian salad of always, with smoked eel on top. One of the most ordered dishes on the menu.
Two versions, same price. The porcini ones are for anyone who has already tried the ham.
Andalusian-style squid (8,60 € / 13,90 €) and fried small fish (8,95 € / 14,90 €). Seaside frying, to eat with your hands and the sea in front of you.
Padrón peppers with sea salt (4,95 € / 7,50 €) and patatas bravas with our signature sauce (5,35 € / 7,95 €). The sauce is our own and tastes nothing like the one next door.
Cantabrian anchovies by the piece (2,60 €) and 80 g of Iberian ham (17,95 € / 25,90 €). Both take a supplement of cristal bread with tomato for 4,50 €, which is how they should be ordered.
Steamed mussels with a hint of charcoal (8,50 € / 12,50 €), grilled tellines with a citrus touch (8,20 € / 14,90 €), garlic prawns with chilli and parsley (12,55 € / 16,95 €) and Galician-style octopus with potatoes and La Vera paprika (13,75 € / 21,90 €).
With ssamjang and spiced sauce. The dish that breaks the script, and the one that most surprises anyone who came expecting classic tapas only.

The whole tapas section is served at the beach bar too, out on the sand, with a 10 % service supplement.
It is the best spot in the house for a long afternoon.
